I think it’s funny that so many of you are up in arms about FLAG being “misandrist”, but no one comments on the other music these days with lyrics like “Slap dat ass, gurl u so hawt, I want dat body.” I mean, come on.

Actually, quite a bit of people DO have problems with that music. It’s just that the music is so popular and generally listened to by the sorts of people who think that lyrics like that are okay. I complain about it when I hear it, although I don’t hear it much because I can’t stand it.* Also, I don’t see why that matters. And why is misandrist in quotation marks?! You make it sound as if they aren’t, which they are.

* More about that: society as a whole says that that sort of stuff is okay. It’s okay to be rude to and about women and to objectify them. Apparently, that’s okay. So there’s aren’t coalitions of people trying to stop it, and the voices that DO say “that’s not okay” are drowned out, ignored, or told to “calm down” or “it’s just a song, geez.”
